From June 2nd to 11th the Ciné-Palestine festival will be running in Paris, Saint-Denis and Aubervilliers. The festival’s aim is to show the creativity and diversity of Palestinian cinema.
This year’s programming is influenced by the 50th anniversary of the occupation which followed the Six-Day War in 1967, focussing on “shared views about 1967”. There will also be a retrospective of film-maker Mohammad Bakri. He will be present at the festival and will talk about his films in a master class. Raed Andoni’s Ghost Hunting (Best Documentary Award at the Berlin International Film Festival) was screened on the opening night, June 2nd.
To encourage young Palestinian talent, the festival is also organizing a short film competition for young film-makers. In total 22 films will be shown during these ten days. Among them, previously unseen films like Philip Gnad and Mickey Yamine’s Gaza Surf Club and Alaa Ashkar’s You Reap What You Sow (with the director present during the screening).
