The Ateliers Varan have launched candidate calls for two training sessions in documentary making which will start in September 2016.
  • The first is a documentary-maker’s workshop entitled “Regards méditerranéens”, organized in Ajaccio from September 5th to October 22nd 2016. This workshop is for aspiring documentary directors from south-eastern France, Corsica and Mediterranean countries. During the 7-week course each participant will have the opportunity to make a documentary film, supervised by film-making teachers and professional editors. The workshop is subsidized by Afdas (Assurance Formation des Activités du Spectacle) in Marseille.
  • The second session is a Professionnel Cinéma et Audiovisuel Masters 2 on the theme: “Independent documentaries with the Ateliers Varan”, and runs from November 21st 2016 to February 25th 2017 in the Cevennes, in Lasalle. Totally immersed in the subject, the students of this Master will each make a short film on a common theme, acquiring and developing the skills necessary to work as a professional documentary maker. Editing is supervised by professionals during this training co-organized with the University of Montpellier 3.
Les Ateliers Varan, created by the director Jean Rouch, have trained over 1,000 professionals over the last 36 years. Dedicated to documentary film-making, the school offers training and workshops throughout the year.
