FRANCE / 12th training workshop for writing TV news reports using archival material

From June 17th to 24th the CMCA (Centre Méditerranéen de la Communication Audiovisuelle), and INA (Institut National de l’Audiovisuel) organized the 12th training workshop for writing TV news reports based on archives. Based in Marseille, this workshop was offered in partnership with Open Media Hub.

Aimed at journalists and directors working for CMCA member companies, there were 9 participants on the  course, all from Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey).

It began with a day of lectures on film conservation and analysing archived film. These courses were led by Geneviève Beaucourt, Head of Analysis and Rights Release, Sophie Gillery, INA Mediterranean Document Manager, and Alann Hery, Director of the INA Technical Department. The former editor-in-chief at France 2, Gilles Trenel, shared his experience with the trainees in a master class on how to use archive material in a TV report.

The journalists were also given an introduction to filming and editing before going out into the streets of Marseille with a camera. As a group they made reports about gastronomy, combining archival material with their own footage. The workshop was supervised by Franco Revelli, Stéphane Pachot and François Mouren-Provensal.
