EUROPE / Nisi Masa promotes short European films

Nisi Masa is a non-profit organization helping and promoting young professionals in the European film industry. As part of that, it organizes the European Short Pitch every year.

Nisi Masa

The Short Pitch programme includes writing workshops, meetings and co-production forums to help young, talented Europeans develop and pitch their projects in a professional environment. The application call at the beginning of this year produced twelve projects – among them six Mediterranean productions:

Apnea by Sonia Ladidà Schiavone (Italy), produced by Seeking Production.

Barbette by Paul Marques Duarte (France), produced by Blue Hour Films and Brittany Focus.

Unorthodox by Konstantinos Antonopoulos (Greece), produced by Either/Or Productions.

Grasshoppers by Hanis Bagashov (Macedonia, France): produced by OXO Production and La Belle Affaire Productions. This short film is set in an isolated village of North Macedonia. One summer day Nora receives a visit from a sister she hasn’t seen for years.

Loose by Paula Skelin (Croatia), produced by Eclectica. Last year this project received funding from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. It’s about a six-year-old girl and her grandmother awaiting deportation.

Traitors of the Eyes by Saad Dnewar and Abdelrahman Dnewar (Germany, Egypt), produced by Reynard Films. An animated film about two twins on a journey to mourn the death of their mother. During their journey, their sexuality and religion trouble them. Their memories clash, eventually shedding light on the secrets of their conservative Muslim family.

The first scriptwriting workshop will be held online between September 21st and 25th. It will focus on improving the quality of each script. The co-production forum should take place from November 12th to 15th.
