The Établissement de la Télévision Tunisienne (ETT) has asked a consortium of French public broadcasters, led by France Médias Monde and including France Télévisions, Radio France, the Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA) and Expertise France to join a twinning project funded by the European Commission.
Starting this spring for a period of 24 months, the idea behind the project is to support Tunisian television in its modernization as part of its democratic transition. Twinning with French broadcasters will help consolidate the Tunisian public broadcasting sector, reflecting the country’s political, social, cultural and regional diversity and guaranteeing pluralistic and honest information.
With a total budget of one million euros, the project is structured around 5 components: “Governance and organization”, “Public service mission”, “Transformation into integrated media”, “Support for the launch of the continuous news channel Wataniya Info” and “Communication and accountability”. The project will be put in place by the European funding and the Académie France Médias Monde, which has been operating in Tunisia for over 10 years.
This cooperation on both sides of the Mediterranean will modernize the Établissement de la Télévision Tunisienne, in an international context of redefining economic and editorial models of generalist public service television at a time when digital platforms and mobile applications are increasingly attracting viewers.
This twinning project is part of a strategy of exchanging experience between professional partners. Hence, pooling French public broadcasters’ expertise should guarantee the right response to the ETT’s needs.
