EGYPT / The 7th El Gouna Film Festival comes to an end


The 7th El Gouna Film Festival was held from October 24th to November 1st.

This year the event, which showcases new voices in world cinema, offered 83 films from 48 countries divided into 5 categories – including the Fiction Feature Film Competition and the Documentary Film Competition.

On the fiction side, the films included Algiers by Chakib Taleb-Bendiab (Algeria), Every Body Loves Touda by Nabil Ayouch (Morocco) and Meryam Joobeur’s Who Do I Belong to (Tunisia).

There were 12 films in the documentary competition, among them Farah Kassem’s We Are Inside,which follows the director when she decided to return to Lebanon to live with her ageing father. Also in competition, Tata by Lina Vdovîi and Radu Ciorniciuc (Romania) is about a journalist who, despite the violence she suffered at the hands of her father, decides to help him, a victim of exploitation at his workplace.
