The Egyptian actor Farouk El Fichaoui died of cancer on July 25th in Cairo, at the age of 67. Born in 1952 in Al-Minufiyah, Farouk El Fichaoui graduated in literature from Cairo’s Ain Shams University, then continued his training at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.
His career began in the mid-1970’s, and in 1976 he was noticed in the hit play The Princess, in which he played alongside Leila Iloui. Two years later, he appeared in the cast of the series Baba Aabdou and subsequently worked in theatre, film and television.
During his prolific career he received many awards, the most recent being a tribute paid last October by the Alexandria International Festival of Mediterranean Cinema.
