The Cypriot festival opened on April 12th, and runs until April 20th at the Rialto Cinema in Limassol and the Zena Palace Cinema in Nicosia. Co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Cinema, Cyprus Film Days shows international and Cypriot feature films.
The festival’s programming revolves around two main sections: “Glocal Images”, an international competition with 9 films in the running, and “Viewfinder”, a non-competitive category for films which won awards at major festivals in 2018. There are 6 films in this section, including Dogman from Italy’s Matteo Garrone, Girl from Belgium’s Lukas Dhont and The Guilty from Sweden’s Gustav Möller. There is also a National Competition Section, showing 4 Cypriot films. All films screened during the festival were produced between 2018 and 2019 and have never been shown in Cyprus.
Programming also includes master classes, tributes to filmmakers, workshops and concerts. The festival closes at the Rialto Cinema on April 20th with the jury, chaired by German actor Udo Kier, announcing the various awards.
On the sidelines of the festival, as every year, there will be an event for young audiences: the Cyprus Film Days for Children & Youth. Young viewers are invited to discover both international productions and films made by Cypriot and Greek children. This event is organized in partnership with the International Children’s Film Festival of Cyprus.
