Ali Djerri, director of the private TV station KBC (El Khabar TV) has received a verbal warning from the Algerian broadcasting watchdog, ARAV. At issue: “the repeated infringements by two programmes – “Allô oui” and “Jornan el-gosto” – in which names and symbols of the state and senior officials in different structures and institutions of the Republic are systematically abused and mocked” according to the ARAV statement of June 29th. M. Miloud Chorfi, ARAV’s chairman, adds that “such actions stem from a breach of professional ethics and fall under the laws of Information and Broadcasting.” He also warns that “the government will not hesitate to take the necessary legal measures” if these infringements continue.
