FRANCE / 8th nouv.o.monde, the film festival of Rousset – Pays d’Aix

Nouv.o.monde will take place from March 8th to 17th in three towns in southern France: Rousset, Trets and Aix-en-Provence. Organized by Films du Delta, this 8th edition is a place for cinematographic creation. Presenting emerging directors and major film-makers, nouv.o.monde sees its role as helping audiences discover films which are “spectacular or intimate, but which take a committed and creative look at the current issues of our world.” After each session, the audience can talk with the director.

33 films from 17 countries are in the programme. Among them Working Woman by Israeli film-maker Michal Aviad, which opens the festival in the presence of its director. Shown in pre-release, this film is about a highly intelligent woman, Oma, whose boss keeps making inappropriate demands, but she does not dare denounce him. Another film being screened in preview is Los silencios by Brazilian director Beatriz Seigner. Her film follows a family as they arrive on a small island in the middle of the Amazon basin having fled the armed conflict in Columbia.

In parallel with screenings open to everyone, the festival offers educational sessions for primary and secondary schools, with screenings of the animated film Le chant de la mer (Tomm Moore, 2014), Wadjda (Haifaa Al-Mansour, 2012 ) and Jack et la mécanique du cœur (Mathias Malzieu, Stéphane Berla, 2013). Note also, exhibitions, concerts, book signings and readings related to the themes addressed by the film-makers.
