The 37th Istanbul Film Festival ran from April 6th to 17th. As part of it there was a showcase for film projects being developed in Turkey and neighbouring countries, “Meetings on the Bridge”. The aim is to bring together directors and producers from these countries so they can share their projects and possibly collaborate on co-productions. “Meetings on the Bridge” also gives awards to finished films and to projects in development.
17 films in development and 6 projects were presented at the Film Development Workshop and at the Neighbours Platform. Several awards were presented by the jury, made up of representatives from the Berlinale Global Film Fund project, Picture Tree International, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg and a micro-finance institution.
Ali Kemar Çınar won first prize, worth 6,000 euros for his film in development “Normal” (co-produced by Nesra Gürbüz and Sinan Yusufoğlu). In addition, the Turkish National Centre for Cinema and the Animated Image presented Gürcan Keltek with a prize of 8,000 euros for his Turkish-Danish co-production project “New Dawn Fades”.
In addition several conferences about cinema, in particular “Filmer en France” and a workshop on virtual reality, enriched this year’s “Meetings on the Bridge”.
