SPAIN / MadridCreaLab launches its call for projects

The Madrid programme has launched its 8th call for projects. MadridCreaLab was conceived as a laboratory for script development, selecting projects for feature-length dramas, animation, documentary and experimental films — but it also sees itself as a place for writers, directors and producers to meet and exchange ideas.

The programme has four stages, from July to November 2019. Once their project has been selected, writers and directors take part in personalized tutoring sessions and pitching workshops, accompanied by four tutors — this year Argentinian director, screenwriter and actress Marina Seresesky, Spanish writer / producer Lola Mayo and two Spanish writer / directors, Felipe Vega and Carlos Molinero. MadridCreaLab closes with a pitching session to Madrid producers and professional broadcasters.

Film Madrid, the Spanish capital’s film commission, will give an award of €3,000 to the scenario which shows off the city, its natural and urban landscape and its heritage, to best advantage. The winner will also benefit from Film Madrid’s resources and services: knowledge of film locations plus help with managing filming authorizations. The Plataforma Nuevos Realizadores (PNR — New Directors’ Platform), will award the prize for the Best Second Scenario and will offer the winner one year membership in the association.

MadridCreaLab has the backing of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport, the scriptwriters union (ALMA), the Asociación Madrileña del Audiovisual (AMA), the PNR and Madrid’s film and television school (ECAM).

The deadline for submitting projects is March 21st 2019.
