MALTA / 4th Valletta Film Festival

The fourth Valletta Film Festival, organized by the Film Grain Foundation, will take place from June 8th to 17th. More than 50 international films will be screened, including 20 in the official competition, which is divided into three categories: feature films, documentaries and short films.

On the sidelines of the competition there will be screenings based on the following themes: “Without Borders”, “Islanders” and “Teens Only”, some of them in the open air.

The festival also allows participants to meet different actors, producers and directors of the films in competition as well as to participate in fun workshops about film-making during the day. There will also be master classes on various themes. The festival will feature two Maltese productions: Charlie Cauchi’s documentary “Maltza to Motor City” and “Tafxnaf”, a film made by 22 Maltese students. Finally, professionals will be able to find out about the co-production market at the Clermont Ferrand film festival and the Council of Europe’s cultural fund, Eurimages.

There are many Mediterranean productions and co-productions in the competition, such as Ram Nehari’s “Do not forget me” (France / Germany / Israel), Carlos Marques-Marcet’s “Anchor and Hope” (Spain / United Kingdom), Damiano and Fabio D’Innocenzo’s “Boys Cry” (Italy), Babis Makridis’ “Pity” (Greece / Poland) and Talal Derki’s “Of Fathers and Sons” (Germany / Syria / Lebanon).
