JORDAN / Cinema comes to detention centres

On February 13th the Royal Film Commission and the Public Security Directorate, represented by the director of Correctional and Rehabilitation Centres, signed a Memorandum of Understanding allowing prisoners to have access to film screenings. The project is called “Cinema for All”. Films will be shown in all the Kingdom’s penitential centres, with the exception of the Al Muwaqqar 2 centre. The agreement is part of a wider strategy to rehabilitate prisoners. Cinema thus becomes a tool to prepare prisoners for reintegration into society and help limit the psychological impact of confinement.

Since 2017, the Royal Film Commission has organised 26 screenings in 15 different centres but this new agreement will facilitate more events of this type, by easing access to film rights and providing good quality technical equipment to the centres.
