FRANCE ITALY GERMANY / The Alliance ’s announcements at the Berlin Film Festival

Representatives of the Alliance, took advantage of being at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival to discuss their projects. In addition to reaffirming their commitment to use their partnership to strengthen European cultural identity by co-producing TV series, they gave details about some of their current projects.

For example, series ready for transmission : they reminded us that the French broadcast of Mirage, a series about spies, began on February 17th. The German version is scheduled to start on March 22nd. The Alliance representatives also announced that Around the World in 80 Days, an adventure series adapted from the novel by Jules Verne, will begin transmission at the end of the year, or in early 2021. Filming began in February in South Africa and Romania.

Meanwhile filming of another co-production, Leonardo, began in Rome in December 2019. This 8-episode series about the Renaissance artist has an international cast : Aidan Turner (Poldark), Freddie Highmore (Good Doctor), Matilda de Angelis (Una famiglia) and Robin Renucci (Un village francais).
Filming for the thriller series Survivors is due to start in the spring. A sailing boat, Arianna, is wrecked in a violent storm and the seven survivors are found on an island a year later.

Lastly a new Alliance project was announced : the adaptation of Frank Schätzing’s bestselling science fiction book, The Swarm. Produced by Intaglio Films and NDF International Production, shooting is scheduled to start in the autumn.
