TUNISIA / Imminent launch of a new channel Carthage Plus

A new private, general interest television channel, Carthage Plus, will join the Tunisian broadcasting landscape in the next few days.

Created by the Paris-based Tunisian businessman, Lassaad Kheder, Carthage Plus will broadcast from Tunis on the Nilesat satellite, on the frequency formerly used by Attessia TV. The experimental broadcasting period began in August and has just been completed, so the channel’s official launch is “imminent”, according to the Tunisian media on September 7th.

For the most part Carthage Plus will mix entertainment and dramas. In particular, the channel has obtained an exclusive contract to broadcast several recent Turkish soaps, such as “La Sultane Kösem” and “Kara Sevda” (Love without end). Carthage Plus will also produce its own drama, and has already announced the creation of its own soap.

Launching this new channel, whose team is 100% Tunisian, is part of a wider Tunis-based project involving the media. It includes a new university specializing in media studies in Tunis and a “Mediacity”, a free zone to encourage major foreign media groups, news agencies and advertising agencies to come there.
