SPAIN / RTVE puts new broadcasting technologies on show

The Spanish public television RTVE is increasing the number of events which promote new forms of broadcasting.

On May 31st it organized a workshop on broadcasting production using IP technology. Everyone interested in or connected to IP broadcasting was there, discussing this revolutionary technology.

The CEO of RTVE, Enrique Alejo launched the workshop, and some of the company’s senior executives, Pere Vila, Director of Technology, Strategy and Innovation, and David Valcárce, Director of Operations, took an active part in it.

The workshop was set up because RTVE is looking for innovative technological solutions: one of its aims was to improve and simplify signal transmission and hopefully create a new standard for it. There will be further workshops on different possible methods of transmission, all part of a corporate programme called Impulsa Visión RTVE.

On June 11th and 12th, the Spanish public broadcaster presented its new programmes plus an analysis of production, distribution and consumption trends in broadcasting content. Among the new programmes are prime-time dramas like “The Other Look”, “I’m Alive” and “Fugitive”, daily soaps such as “Acacias 38” and “Servir y Proteger” and a series of documentaries on Spanish towns which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The series “Cuéntame cómo pasó”, in its 19th season, received a special presentation because of its exceptional success. The platform “Playz” was also announced: an entertainment space on the internet for young audiences, including a short-term web series.

There were two conferences with panels of broadcasting production specialists: “How to tell stories successfully in 21st century television” chaired by Fernando Lopèz Puig, RTVE’s director of drama and cinema, and “New consumer habits” moderated by Ignacio Gomèz, Director of analysis and new projects at RTVE.

The two-day event welcomed more than 150 participants representing television, radio and VoD platforms from around the world.
