SPAIN / €100,000 allocated for broadcasting production in the Balearic islands

On September 3rd the Ministries of Tourism and of Culture signed an agreement to work together to make the archipelago attractive for filming. €100,000 has been allocated to support broadcasting production.

The agreement was signed by Bel Busquets, vice-president of the Balearic Islands’ government and regional minister for innovation, research and tourism, and Fanny Tur, regional minister of culture and sports.

Collaboration on the ground will be between the Institute of Balearic Studies and the Balearic Agency of Tourism Strategy. The former will provide the personnel and infrastructure to promote the region’s attractiveness as a filming location, the latter will provide the finance.

Bel Busquets said: “It’s about taking advantage of both organizations’ knowledge, and combining synergies to improve the Balearic Islands’ competitiveness as a cultural tourist destination offering unique possibilities.” For Fanny Tur this project will be “a tool to spread the word abroad while strengthening cultural creation at home.

The collaboration reinforces the Ministry of Culture’s existing work in broadcasting: already €1.8 million are allocated to help the sector in the archipelago.
