SPAIN / DocsBarcelona festival maintained

The 23rd DocsBarcelona will be held online. The organizers explained their decision by saying they want above all “to maintain the project with its commitment to the public and the industry, while guaranteeing a diverse and quality offer.” Thanks to the Filmin platform, the selected films will be online from May 19th to 31st. 35 documentaries have been chosen by the selection committee, 28 long and 7 short. 19 of them are first films.
The Festival organizers have kept diversity in mind since more than half the films selected are made by women.

The different categories of DocsBarcelona are maintained. In the Panorama section, 13 titles are competing for the Best Documentary Award, equivalent to a prize of €5,000. Some of the selected films are from the Mediterranean, such as Faith by the Italian Valentina Pedicini about a sect practising the martial arts, the Israeli documentary Advocate by Rachel Leah Jones and Philippe Bellaïche and Rising from the Tsunami by Hélène Robert and Jeremy Perrin.

The Festival’s professional market will also be held online. 42 European projects will be presented to professionals from around the world. Several discussions and round tables are planned, with two already finalised: the first deals with the unconscious prejudices in documentary creation, while the second will highlight the work involved in audiovisual creation.

The Catalonia regional government, Creative Europe’s MEDIA programme, the Barcelona Town Hall and the provincial government, the ICAA and the AC / E support this festival.
