ROMANIA / RFI România given the Cultural Order of Merit

As part of Romania’s National Day, December 1st, the radio station RFI România was awarded the Cultural Order of Merit. It was presented to the station’s Director, Cornel Ion, by the Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis. In his speech the president emphasized “the professionalism, objectivity and dedication of the journalists working for this radio station which has become a model of responsible news gathering.”
In late November, RFI’s Romanian subsidiary celebrated its 25th anniversary. Since 1990 It has been transmitting programmes devoted to news, culture, French culture and language – in Romanian and French. Followed by a million listeners each week, it has its own frequencies in Bucharest, Cluj, Craiova and Iasi, as well as in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau. It also recently acquired two new frequencies for 2016, at Timisoara and Sibiu, which will allow it potentially to reach 470,000 new listeners.
