Created in 2016, the Moroccan web-site Filmexport.ma is a platform to promote Moroccan cinema in all its forms on an international scale. The web-site’s main aim is to give visibility to the increasing number of national productions. Indeed the Moroccan film industry is in good shape – Moroccan film production is growing, driven by a sharp increase in subsidies from the Ministry of Culture (75 million dirhams in 2018 (€6.88 million) against 46 million in 2017 (€4.2 million)).
With a rich catalogue of over a hundred feature films, short films and documentaries, FilmExport is the web-site of choice, since it means the catalogue is available at the various international audiovisual markets and can be consulted by potential buyers. This ambitious project is defined as a “trustful intermediary and a communication facilitator” between producers and buyers.
As well as booming domestic production, Morocco is a popular destination for foreign directors, hosting a large number of international productions. The new production assistance programme set up at the beginning of the year by the Moroccan authorities has undeniably attracted foreign producers. In 2018, no less than 18 feature films and 16 series were shot in Morocco.
