ITALY / Rai Ragazzi launches an initiative for creative young people in animation

Rai Ragazzi, the children’s department of Italy’s national broadcaster, has launched a new initiative for young animation creators, students or recent graduates. The channel has launched a competition “L’ora di tuffarsi” (Time to dive) and the best programmes will be announced on September 3rd.

The projects will be reviewed by Rai Ragazzi’s animation and television series department. In early September, ten will be shown to industry professionals. The concepts will be evaluated according to their originality and innovation, their potential for success with at least one target audience (preschoolers, children, teenagers, families) and their potential for international development.

The competition is open to Italian citizens and foreign residents in Italy aged 18 to 26 years. Projects can be submitted by email, with a brief description of the pitch and the director’s CV, to inforairagazzi@rai.it. Accepted candidates will receive an email on July 20th.

Selected young designers will have 30 minutes to present their projects and answer questions in the presence of representatives of independent Italian production companies.

The event also aims to encourage young Italian animators to participate in the Cartoon Springboard event for European talent, which will take place in Valenciennes, France, from December 4th to 6th.
