FRANCE / The Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel appoints women to run Radio France and France Media Monde

On April 16th Sibyle Veil was named as the new head of Radio France, where she has been Deputy Director in charge of Operations and Finance. The new appointment is for five years, and Mme Veil replaces Mathieu Gallet, dismissed at the beginning of the year by the Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel, the French media regulator.

The CSA also restored Marie-Christine Saragosse to her former position as CEO of France Media Monde. She had been temporarily suspended for administrative reasons. During an interview Mme Saragosse stressed the group’s importance, being present in 180 countries and bringing together France 24, Radio France Internationale and Monte Carlo Doualiya, a French station broadcasting in Arabic. She stressed that “few countries are fortunate enough to have a global and multilingual broadcaster”, allowing France to “transmit its particular vision in the current battle of ideas”.
