According to an article in the newspaper Egyptian Independent, taken up by the website News Monger, a member of the Egyptian parliament has proposed creating a new public television channel. At a meeting on Sunday, Soad Elmasry put forward the idea of a channel dedicated to promoting all kinds of tourism in Egypt.

The politician emphasized the profitability of this sector, since the country already attracts a huge number of tourists. Detailing his project, he said the channel should be available in different languages to attract tourists from around the world.
He also suggested it could be used to advertise Egyptian hotels, to strengthen the channel’s budget. Finally Soad Elmasry, recommended that part of its income be used to renovate national archaeological monuments and sites.

His idea is in line with other projects already put forward by the Egyptian government. In May 2019, the government entered into partnership with CNN to develop a new way of promoting tourism in Egypt without resorting to stereotypes. The partnership wants to find an original way of presenting the multitude of tourist sites in the country.
The first programme under the agreement was made in August 2019. It shows British geographer and traveller Ben Hoffler walking round the Sinai, an area he knows well. Then in October, CNN Travel Trends magazine released a short film on Kemetic Yoga, a new and growing trend in Egyptian tourism.
