UNITED KINGDOM / SAFAR Film Festival, the only festival solely for Arab cinema, is back after the pandemic

Organized and founded in 2012 by the Arab British Centre, SAFAR Film Festival is the only UK film festival dedicated to the Arab world. This year’s hybrid edition, running from July 11th to 17th, is organized around the theme of “generational encounters in Arab cinema”, through contemporary and classic films about the emerging generation, family disparities and societal tensions.

SAFAR Film Festival screenings at the Barbican, Ciné Lumière and the ICA will also be available online from the United Kingdom. There will also be online discussions and round tables for directors and industry leaders.

This year’s physical edition will show 15 films, including “The Dream”, made exactly 40 years ago; A Son, which exposes gender inequality in Tunisia; We Are From There, on the challenges facing two Syrian brothers forced to start from scratch when they arrive in Europe;200 Meters, or how the notorious wall separates a Palestinian father from his wife and children, and the opening film “Souad”, which will be premiered in the UK.
