TURKEY WORLD / Focus on MUBI

Efe Çakarel, CEO founder of MUBI

MUBI is a video-on-demand platform created 10 years ago by a young Turkish entrepreneur, Efe Çakarel.

For €5.99 per month the platform makes available 30 films by well-known, unknown or forgotten film-makers – usually independent. Every day one film is added and another deleted. The target audience are cinephiles and connoisseurs. Among the films this month are Between Fences (2016) by independent Israeli director Avi Mograbi and Eric Rohmer’s rarely seen Triple Agent (2004), set in the Spanish civil war.

The web-site also offers a database of films from the beginnings of cinema to the present day as well as an explanatory “notebook” of films available on the platform.

Formerly known as “The Auteurs”, MUBI is supported by companies like The Criterion Collection and Costa Films, and also by Creative Europe’s MEDIA programme.
