TURKEY / Filming of “When I’m Done Dying” completed

The filming of When I’m Done Dying lasted 4 weeks and has just ended in Istanbul. Written and directed by the young Turkish filmmaker Nisan Dağ, the film is now being edited.

The film is about a 19-year-old rapper — Fehmi — from a difficult suburb of Istanbul. Despite his talent, Fehmi’s addiction to drugs jeopardizes his future and that of his group. His meeting with Devin, a wealthy woman 6 years older than he, will allow him to give free rein to his art but lead him into a toxic love affair. The principal actors are Hayal Köseoğlu and Oktay Çubuk, who play respectively Devin and Fehmi.

When I’m Done Dying is Nisan Dağ’s second feature. In 2017, while the film was in development, it received special mention at the Istanbul Film Festival’s film industry platform Meetings on the Bridge. His first film, Across the Sea, co-written and co-directed with Esra Saydam in 2014, has been nominated at many festivals and has won awards at the Milan International Film Festival, the Adana Film Festival and the Slamdance Film Festival.

For When I’m Done Dying, Nisan Dağ worked closely with editor Özcan Vardar and director of photography John Wakayama Carey, creating the soundtrack with Turkish rapper Da Poet.

The film is due for release early 2020.
