NORTH AFRICA / Special productions for Ramadan 2021

In Morocco and Algeria, Ramadan begins on April 14th and ends on May 12th. In Europe, Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt, Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon the month of Ramadan in the year 1442 AH begins on Tuesday April 13th.

The Muslim’s holy month is also the month with the highest audience figures for Arab television, thanks mainly to the period after sunset when the fast is broken – Iftar. “Satellite and digital broadcasters share these Ramadan entertainment programmes and series among every diaspora around the world,” according to the French radio station France Inter.

In Algeria, seven drama series and ten sitcoms in 2021

Algerian national channels have scheduled seven drama series and ten sitcoms. Among them the eagerly awaited third season of “Achour El Acher” directed by Djaafar Gassem,  Mohamed Gok’s Turkish series “Machair” and “Yemma” by Tunisian director Madih Beleid.

The Moroccan national channel 2M is watched by a spectacular 88% of the audience. This year, in addition to its regular programmes, it’s offering several new productions:

  • mini series like “LColoc”, (My life in flat-share), a comedy about everyday life in shared accommodation

  • dramas: “Bab Lbhar”, a series by Chawki El Oufir with Samia Akariou, Driss Roukh and Noura Skalli.
  • two sitcoms: “Koulna Mgharba” directed by Safae Baraka and “Kissariat Oufella” (10:15 pm), directed by Rachid El Ouali.
  • drama series
  • hidden camera series
  • an entertainment and general culture programme: “Fin Ghadi
  • drama comedies: “Dayzou Lakwam
  • a social drama “Dar Selâa

In Tunisia, TV channels make up for a difficult previous year


In Tunisia television channels are catching up with programmes cancelled last year because of COVID. Watania 1 and 2, Attessia and many others are broadcasting comedy sitcoms, drama series and even “programmes from Tunisian television’s archives” such as “El Khottab Al Bab”, “Fawazir”, “Hidden Camera” “Choufli Hal.”
