MOROCCO / 2M launches “Africa Women Experts”, a digital platform for women

African Women Experts

On November 5th the “Parity and Diversity” committee of the Moroccan channel 2M announced the launch of the first digital platform for professional African women.

Khadija Boujanoui, chair of the committee, said the ambition of this “constructive interaction platform [is] to create a dialogue between well-qualified women on the African continent,” adding that the goal is “to work for equal opportunities and fair speaking” between men and women.

Africa Women Experts (AWE) offers a directory of professional women working in many sectors, from agriculture to musicology. Its main aim is to highlight and bring visibility to feminine proficiency in Africa. The site is intended for journalists, researchers or media professionals wanting to find a particular profile.

2M’s Parity Committee was created in 2013. Having studied how women in the Moroccan media are seen, the committee produced the 2M Charter for the Valorization of the Image of Women in March 2014, on International Women’s Rights Day. In 2016, it launched a first website to identify highly qualified Moroccan women, with a database containing more than 150 areas of expertise. Building on this success, it is now extending the web-site to all African women with Africawomenexperts.com. Presenting the website, Khadija Boujanoui reminded her audience that “African women experts deserve to occupy the place that is due to them in the public debate and the media sphere.
