ITALY / RAI unveils its business plan for 2019-2021

RAI’s board of directors, chaired by Marcello Foa, met on January 24th together with the group’s CEO, Fabrizio Salini. On the agenda was a review of the business plan for the next three years.

Fabrizio Salini presented the outline of his ambitious plan, which he had worked on for six months, and which must be approved by the end of March.

Content and its accessibility are at the heart of Salini’s strategy, as is innovation in different audiovisual formats, particularly connected to the internet. These choices align the Italian public channel with many international groups.

Different structures will be created to implement his project, including digital media, a unit working solely on digital content, Rai Doc and Rai Format. These last two aim to stimulate the Italian broadcasting industry by appealing to independent producers and young film-makers working in documentary and drama.

As for Rai Play, the Italian broadcaster’s replay service, it will be transformed into a platform offering exclusive content, some of which will be specifically adapted to the digital format.

The managing director also exercised his option to purchase the TV rights of the 2019-2020 Champions League.
