ITALY / “Liberami” voted Best Italian Documentary of the year

On April 27th Doc / It, the association of Italian documentary directors and producers, announced the winners of the 7th Doc / It Professional Awards, which since 2010 has rewarded the best of Italy’s documentary production.

The award for Best Documentary of the Year went to Federica di Giacomo, whose “Liberami” explores exorcism in Italy and the rest of the world. This feature-length film, already an award-winner in the Orizzonti section at the Venice Biennale last September, was produced by Mir Cinematografica, Opera Films, Rai Cinema and France 3 Cinéma.

The Writing Award went to Simone Manetti’s  Ciao amore, Vado a combattere  (Goodbye darling, I’m off to fight). This documentary follows Italian actress and model Chantal Ughi in her bid to become Thai boxing’s world champion.

Gianluca and Massimiliano de Serio’s “ I ricordi del fiume” (River memories), about daily life in a Turin shanty town, won the Best Photography award.

The jury of this 7th Doc / It Professional Awards, men and women in the documentary business who have won or been nominated in previous years, also gave awards to Cecilia Bozza Wolf’s “Vergot” (Best Editing) and “The Cormorants” by Fabio Bobbio (Best Production award). Finally, Paolo Civati’s ​​“Castro” won the award for the best film shot in the Lazio region, given by the Roma Lazio Film Commission.
