ITALY / A digital cultural centre will open in Milan

The Cariplo foundation, a philanthropic organisation supporting social, cultural and economic development, and the platform Meet the Media Guru, active since 2005, have united to launch MEET, Italy’s first international centre for digital culture, in Milan. The centre will help bridge the digital divide and make Milan a local and international reference for digital culture.

MEET will be a creative workshop open to everyone, promoting the digital age by focusing on art and culture, specifically targeting children and young people.

While waiting for the official opening in the autumn, MEET has already launched many projects. For now it is focussing on artificial intelligence, cultural innovation and innovations in the field of health, each managed through its web-site and through meetings in Milan and internationally. For example, on March 9th there will be an evening of trans-media storytelling with Eddie Newquist, creator of famous multimedia worlds like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and the world of Narnia. MEET the Media Guru will also participate in the Milan’s digital week and the Toronto Digifest.

While the MEET platform today represents a community of 60,000 people, it hopes to reach 200,000 within the next year or so. This will be partly through the new cultural centre in Milan but also through its network, which includes important international partners such as Toronto’s George Brown College.
