GREECE / Millimages gives two animation programmes to ERT

Mouk-post1
On November 27th Millimages, a French production and distribution company specializing in animation, formally presented two television series to ERT, the Greek public broadcaster which reopened its doors in June. Both series target pre-school audiences: “Mouk” (104 11-minute episodes) and “Didou, dessine-moi” (117 7-minute episodes). In a statement, Roch Lener’s company explained it wants to show “solidarity with the Greek people and with the Greek public broadcaster”, which faces “drastic budget cuts limiting its potential to acquire quality content”.
In keeping with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ promise, ERT’s channels resumed transmitting in June 2015 and will be financed by a 3 euro increase in taxpayers’ electricity bills. In 2013 the Greek government abruptly closed ERT and replaced it with NERIT, a temporary public television service. ERT now has 1,550 employees, nearly 1,000 less than before, while wages have been halved.
