FRANCE / New Printemps du film engagé

The citizens’ collective behind the Printemps du film engagé (Season of politically committed film) is preparing its fifth edition. From Friday March 6th to Wednesday 13th the catch-phrase in Marseille will be: “Y’a urgence !” (This is an emergency!). For a week, screenings followed by discussions are scheduled in different venues in Marseille. The Le Gyptis cinema, the Variety, Videodrome2, the Casa Consolat, the Alcazar and La Baleine will all be the go-to places for this year’s Printemps.

The opening film will be Matthieu Bareyre’s documentary L’époque – a feature-length documentary looking at the hopes, fears, dreams and everyday lives of young Parisians after the terrorist attacks. It will be followed by a discussion about forms of youth commitment, moderated by the festival’s sponsor Michel Peraldi and journalist Michel Samson.

Each evening other subjects will be discussed, such as politics in Latin America or the local elections in Marseille. The festival will also question collective actions by addressing the way foreigners are received, the methods used to preserve a cinema or what it is like for children with disabilities to live together. Various guests will animate the discussions – film-makers, authors, members of the collectives, film and healthcare professionals.
