Rencontres Films Femmes Méditerranée

45 films were shown at this, the 13th Rencontres Films Femmes Méditerranée – dramas and documentaries, short and long – including 3 in pre-release and 10 being shown for the first time. The Rencontres maintained their reputation for discovering, supporting and distributing films made by Mediterranean women.

The event opened in Marseilles on October 4th at the Mucem (the museum of European and Mediterranean civilisations) with a new film by the highly esteemed Italian film-maker Alice Rohrwacher, Heureux comme Lazzaro, winner of the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes. Then on October 6th and 7th a tribute was paid to directors of the 1970’s, with 6 films screened, in the presence of Coline Serreau. Readings, workshops, lessons in film-making and meetings for professionals punctuated the screenings of the 13th Films Femmes Méditerranée, plus a round table on women’s rights in the Mediterranean, in partnership with Arte.

The festival criss-crossed Marseilles, with screenings at the Mucem, the Villa Méditerranée, the cinema La Baleine, at Videodrome 2, Montevideo and the Alhambra cinema. And not just in Marseilles, there were also screenings and meetings at La Ciotat, Hyères, Port-de-Bouc and Toulon.
