MEDITERRANEAN / A call for projects about gender equality in Mediterranean broadcasting

A first call for propositions has been launched as part of the SouthMed WiA (Women in Audiovisual) project, financed by the European Union.

The aim of this call is to put forward innovative ideas which promote gender equality in the broadcasting sector of seven southern Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. At the end of the call, SouthMed WiA will subsidize proposals which best fulfil the project’s remit: to strengthen the expertise of women working in broadcasting across the Mediterranean and to combat their under-representation.

People with a project can register their application under one of three headings: “Research activities”, “Training”, and “Raising awareness and promotional activities”. Each proposal selected will receive a grant of between €80,000 and €100,000.

The deadline for sending your applications is September 15th. A second call will be published in February 2018.

Initiated in February 2017 as part of the Med Film programme, SouthMed WiA is supported by Interarts, a Barcelona-based cultural agency, in collaboration with the Culture and Media Agency Europe (CUMEDIAE), the Conférence Permanente de l’Audiovisuel Méditerranéen (COPEAM), the Screen Institute Beirut (Lebanon), Tunisia’s Ecole Supérieure d’Audiovisuel et de Cinéma (ESAC), and in association with the European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA).
