ITALY / 22nd “Cartoons on the Bay”

For the second year running Turin hosted “Cartoons on the Bay”, an international festival of cross-media animation and children’s television from April 12th to 14th. The event was organized by Rai Com and sponsored by Rai, with the Piedmontese Region also very involved in the project.

The festival programme this year was very varied – in addition to awards for the best cartoons, the festival included an exhibition of storyboards chronicling Italy’s racial laws against Jews, which came into force 80 years ago. On the same subject, the first European animated film about the holocaust was shown, produced by Rai Com. Throughout the festival there were also previews and free screenings.

This year 5 of the 9 awards were won by French productions, one of them a co-production with Italy.

Finally, the children’s channel Rai Ragazzi used the event to present its up-coming programmes and cartoons.
